by Dave Schnorr - Kelbros Maintenance Manager Kelbros Inc. of Fond Du Lac, WI, specializes in CNC turning for plastic and rubber molds and die-cast dies. We have over 40 years of mold experience. Kelbros has 12 CNC lathes and machining centers, and 12 manual lathes. In January 2001, Erin Skorupa (Kelbros Vice President) contacted Ron "Andy" Anderson (Machinery Tooling & Supply - Fluids and Filtration Product Manager) and mentioned that she had heard some positive things about Blaser Swisslube. The next day, Andy met Erin and was introduced to Jim Kelly (Kelbros President) and me. After getting some basic information Andy took a sample of our water for analysis. He interviewed an operator with a severe case of dermatitis and it was learned that our current coolant supplier was not proactively addressing our coolant problems. All they did was send a biocide as a sump side additive and told us that would take care of everything. Not even close! |
A
t this same meeting Andy noticed our saw and mentioned to me that the Blaser would extend the life of the blade here as well. Not only did our blade life improve, the saw has not been as clean or run as well in a number of years.Andy was confident that he could address our coolant problems. He suggested that we address the problem machine first, he explained once we saw the benefits and were comfortable with the product, we wouldnt hesitate putting it in the rest of our machines. Andy also offered to assist us with the cleaning of the machine prior to filling it with Blaser. No one has ever offered to do that for us! We gave MT&S and order for a drum of coolant and a Jet Mix (which could be returned for full credit if we were not happy).
We only wish we had taken Andy and MT&S up on their offer years before! Blaser has been used at Kelbros for over a year now and we have seen the following benefits:
* No skin irritation. The problems some of our operators had are
gone!
* Longer sump life. We havent dumped any coolant yet. This is
a big cost savings - No waste coolant to pay to have hauled away, less new coolant used,
no down time on our machines for coolant changes, they are making chips.
* Product is easy to use.
* Easy to recycle.
* No need for sump side additives.
* No rusting on parts or machines.
* Improved tool life, better finishes.
* Excellent support from Machinery Tooling & Supply.
