Scott Rosen![]() Senior Sales Engineer Mazak Group Two decades in the making and still on the fast track of growth, Mica Tool & Mfg., Inc., Mukwonago, WI continues to strive for new ways to better service their customers. Frank Concotelli, President and founder, began his company in the corner of a rented warehouse where he produced jigs, fixtures, and prototype parts on a Bridgeport and a WWII vintage J&L Turret lathe. In 1981 Frank hired the first of many employees and in 1985 moved to a new 6,000 sq. ft. facility. The business direction began to change in 1986 when Frank purchased his first Mazak, a Quick Turn 15. As business began to accelerate, it became necessary to add an additional 6000 sq. ft. to house five more Mazaks, a V414, QT8, QT15, QT20, and a QT28. The company began to focus on customers with parts requiring close tolerance, low to medium volumes, in materials such as stainless, aluminum, plastic and exotic materials. Tom Hintz, VP of Sales, said that "many of Micas customers require them to inventory parts for 'just in time' requirements. Mazatrol programming and the auto tool eye allow for fast set-ups of lower volume parts." Many of the Mazak lathes are equipped with LNS Barfeeds, which enable them to run the higher volume parts more efficiently. In 1997 Mica Tool moved into its new 24,000 sq. ft. facility, home for the twelve CNC machines. With white walls, air-conditioning, and twice the normal lighting, this new high tech factory provides the perfect working environment. The employees, many of which have 10-12 years of service, bring forth the expertise needed to maintain the high quality standards expected from Mica Tool. Ken Englund, Plant Manager, frequently spends time with Bob Shay, Sales Engineer with Machinery Tooling & Supply (MT&S), working on new cutting tool solutions from Sandvik. Mica Tool has also extended their sump life over six times with the use of Blaser Coolant and keeps the shop air clean with a Royal Mist collection system. What Frank Concotelli looks for in a supplier is years of experience, trust and the confidence that we will meet his expectations. Through the many years of our relationship, MSI has been able to provide many of the right solutions to meet their needs. We wish Mica Tool well on their plans for continued growth and success! |
