The Almost Perfect Company |

Adam Cahill - Quick Turn Mfg. Production Manager Quick Turn Mfg. started three years ago intent on making transmission parts for the auto industry. Being a division of Remkes Garage, this idea would have been a perfect fit for an already successful auto repair shop. "We never made a single transmission part," points out Tony Remke, Quick Turn Mfg. Manager, "before even one part could be cut, Quick Turn became involved in an industry far from cars and trucks." The electrician who wired up the machine asked if Quick Turn Mfg. could make a self-feeding drill bit (specifically used by electricians and plumbers). Lightening struck! Quick Turn Mfg. found this a viable business and developed the Woodchuck Drill. This drill differs from others on the market because it is machined rather than welded. |
Using Mazak’s Multi-tasking Super Quick Turn 250MSY, parts are machined complete in one operation "making the part integrity incomparable," points out Adam Cahill, Production Manager. The 250MSY is equipped with a LNS S2 barfeeder offering unattended machining. The only interruption to their unattended machine time is the 3 setups per week and the perishable tool changes.
Because of the large amounts of unattended machine time, both Adam and Tony feel like part time employees of Quick Turn Mfg. In fact, Tony has more time to devote to the other three divisions of Remke's Garage. Tony mentions that, "I feel like I am only needed at Quick Turn Mfg. to load raw material, change out perishable tooling, maintain inventory, package and ship product." Tony continues to explain that "unattended, multi-tasking is the only way to go for this business." He concludes by saying, "the greatest thing about the machine is that when Im out playing a round of golf, the machine is still making money."
Although they seem like a perfect company, John Olas, MSI Sales Engineer, has helped Quick Turn Mfg. recognize that "to truly realize the benefits of 24 hours per day of unattended manufacturing, they should make the next step from the Super Quick Turn to the Integrex. The added back up tools and quicker changeover time will help increase the number of hours they can produce parts unattended. With this machine added to his shop, I see Tonys golf game improving!"
